Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), met today with Peter HANSEN, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Works and Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNWRA).
The meeting served to examine the circumstances of Palestinian refugees in the context of the deterioration of the security conditions in the Middle East.
The High Representative expressed his deep concern for the state of affairs in Palestinian refugee camps, in particular the situation in the camp of Rafah.
Javier SOLANA reiterated his strong support and the commitment of the European Union for the important humanitarian work being carried out by UNWRA in the region.
UNWRA is the largest UN relief and human development agency operating in the Middle East. It provides education, healthcare, social services and emergency aid to over four million refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic.
