Javier Solana, European Union High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, expressed his shock and sorrow at the death this morning of Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Anna Lindh.
"I am shocked at the tragic disappearance of Anna Lindh. She was a brilliant colleague, a true European and a dear friend.
I have written to Prime Minister Persson to express my condolences to his government and to the Swedish people. Europe, and the Council of Ministers which she had so ably chaired, have lost a formidable and engaged person.
My personal thoughts go to her family and to their immense grief."
