EUHR Javier SOLANA congratulated President Paul Kagame on his victory

Javier Solana, European Union High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy conveyed his congratulations to the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, following his victory in yesterday's presidential election.

In a message to President Kagame, the High Representative wishes him "every success in the accomplishment of (his) task". High Representative Solana notes that Mr Kagame's election "has taken place at a crucial moment in the history of Rwanda" and that "remarkable progress has been made since the 1994 genocide in rebuilding and reunifying the country." He also notes that Mr Kagame's "determination, courage and wisdom are needed in order to face the multiple challenges Rwanda is still confronted with" and strongly hopes that he will "continue making all the necessary efforts to ensure a stable, peaceful and prosperous future" for the country.
