Statement by President Prodi following the killing of children in Kosovo

I am dismayed to hear of the brutal attack on a group of children swimming in a river near Gorazdevac that cost the life of two young Kosovo Serbs. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. Let me take this occasion to send our deepest sympathy to them.

The European Commission will continue its efforts, together with the people of Kosovo, to help them to definitely leave behind the legacy of the recent tragic past. Let this terrible tragedy not lead to a slowdown in the ongoing process of creating a peaceful and secure environment for all people of Kosovo.
