
Summary: June 23, 2003: Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for CFSP, to visit Washington (Brussels)
The EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, will visit Washington where he will participate in the EU-US Summit which will take place in the White House on Wednesday, June 25.
This event represents an important opportunity for reviewing EU-US political ties and transatlantic relations and will provide an occasion for discussions on how to enhance mutual co-operation and on current international issues, such as the implementation of the Quartet's Road Map for peace in the Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan, non-proliferation and the fight against terrorism.
The Summit is expected to highlight to concrete results in important areas, notably the signing of the EU-US Mutual Legal Assistance and Extradition Agreements and the launching of negotiations on a Transatlantic Open Aviation Area Agreement.
On the occasion of his visit, High Representative Solana will also brief the Members of the House International Relations Committee of the Congress, in particular on the Middle East and on the outline for a European Security Strategy which he presented to EU Heads of State and government at the Thessaloniki European Council.
