Mr. Carlo Fatuzzo, Member of the European Parliament, participated in the Second Session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues on 21 May and delivered in the plenary a statement of support to the work conducted in that body.
The EU follows with interest the activities of the Permanent Forum as a primary example of partnership between indigenous peoples, national governments, the UN and other international and regional organizations; as stated already in the Development Council resolution of 30 November 1998: "The Council recognizes that cooperation with and support for the establishment of partnerships with indigenous peoples is essential for the objectives of poverty elimination, sustainable development of
natural resources, the observance of human rights and the development of democracy ".
