Immediately after the adoption of the Beijing Platform for Action (PfA), Heads of Governments of the European Union (EU) agreed on annual reviews of the implementation of the Platform. This has led to the development of indicators and benchmarking, thus making the annual monitoring process more focused and structured. Sets of indicators have been developed under subsequent EU Presidencies in the following areas:
- Women in power and decision-making, Finland (1999)
- Reconciliation of family life and working life, France (2000)
- Equal pay between women and men, Belgium (2001)
- Domestic violence against women, Denmark (2002)
