The European Union reaffirms its condemnation of the acts of violence perpetrated in Côte d'Ivoire against a legitimate government. The European Union reiterates its attachment to the principles of the African Union, condemning any recourse to force to obtain political change.
The European Union emphasizes the need for all parties involved in the current crisis to participate in solving the conflict by political means, cease all hostilities and put a stop to any human rights violations.
The European Union expresses its shock at the discovery of mass graves and repeats its condemnation of violence. The European Union strongly condemns all acts of violence, from whatever source, against the population.
The European Union proposes that the UN expedite an enquiry to establish the facts and ascertain where responsibilities lie for human rights violations, particularly as far as the mass graves are concerned.
The European Union maintains its support for mediation by ECOWAS and would like to see the ECOWAS Monitoring Group deployed rapidly in Côte d'Ivoire.
