Summary: November 28, 2002: Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, condemns the attacks in Kenya (Brussels)
Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, made the following statement, upon his arrival in Belgrade, on the suicide attack against a Hotel near Mombasa, Kenya, and the missile attack against an Israeli aircraft today:
"I have just learned of the tragic events in Kenya and I would like to express my shock and condemnation.
I wish to express my sympathy to the families of all the victims of this murderous attack.
I would also like to send my condolences to the Government of Kenya, as well as to the Israeli Government, as it seems clear that Israeli citizens were the main target of both terror attacks.
These tragic incidents come as a sad reminder that no region in the world is immune from terrorist attacks. This should strengthen our common determination to intensify as a matter of priority co-operation with our African partners - among others - as part of our global fight against terrorism."
