Dr. Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, made the following statement on the latest developments in Mitrovica:
"I would like to express my satisfaction about the encouraging developments in Northern Mitrovica. The extension of direct administrative authority of UNMIK to Northern Mitrovica is an important step in further normalization of Kosovo.
I would like to commend the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Michael Steiner, for his efforts to achieve this result. I believe that the latest developments in Mitrovica are a demonstration of the commitment of all communities in Kosovo to intensify their efforts to build a multiethnic and democratic Kosovo in which everybody learns to live side by side in peace and security."
