UN Resolution on Iraq

Summary: November 8, 2002: Statement by Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), on the UN Security Council Resolution on Iraq (Brussels)

EU High Representative Javier Solana welcomes the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution on Iraq:

" I welcome the unanimous adoption today of the new United Nations Security Council Resolution on Iraq.

The views of the European Union are fully reflected in this text, particularly the key objective of the EU, namely vigorously to address the disarmament of Iraq and to do so within the framework of the UN Security Council.

Today's message to Baghdad is very clear: the UN Security Council Resolution expresses the unity and determination of the entire International Community to assume its collective responsibility.

I wish to reiterate my support to the United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, to the Chief Weapons Inspector Hans Blix, and to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mohamed El-Baradei. The European Union supports them in their work."
