Declaration on EU-UN cooperation

Summary: May 15, 2001: Declaration on EU-UN cooperation (Brussels)

The United Nations is a key partner for the EU in crisis management and conflict prevention. The EU is committed to develop a closer cooperation with the United Nations in these areas.

The EU welcomed that an agreement had been reached in the Political and Security Committee on EU guidelines for a strengthened dialogue at all levels with the United Nations, thereby providing the framework for an intensified relationship.

The United Nations Secretary General and the ministers discussed possible concrete cooperation within the areas of conflict prevention, crisis management, field co-operation/training and African affairs, where a closer dialogue with the United Nations should be considered. They agreed to raise these at the subsequent working dinner.
