The Delegation of the European Commission to the FAO (Food and Agriculture Oganisation) and other UN Organisations in Rome dates back to 1993, originating in 1991, when the the European Community was accepted as a full member of the FAO, the first time it was recognised as a full voting member by a UN agency.
Rome is considered the UN capital for activities in the fields of food and agriculture and hosts the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The three UN organisations are complementary and share a common goal to which Member Nations pledged at the FAO World Food Summit of 1996: the eradication of hunger in the world.
